Recipients of the Gunslinger Award

During an IOGAWV Strategic Planning Retreat in 1991, the job of the Board of Directors of IOGAWV was described as, “Our job here is to take a bunch of GUNSLINGERS and turn them into a posse.”

In 1993 the Board of Directors of IOGAWV decided to initiate an award to recognize individuals who had made unique contributions to the well being of the West Virginia natural gas and oil industry over an extended period of time.

The Board wanted to recognize these individuals with an award unique in character. The Gunslinger Award provides recognition to these individuals who sacrificed so much of their time for the betterment of the industry.

The members of the West Virginia natural gas and oil industry are a hard driving bunch of entrepreneurs who have survived hard times and prospered in a harsh economic environment. In many cases they have had to subordinate their natural instincts as hard driving leaders to be effective in the trade association environment.

These winners of the Gunslinger Award have done just that. Through their leadership and effort, they have taken a group of gunslingers and made them into a posse, working for the betterment of the natural gas and oil industry.
