YOUR WEEKLY DOSE OF “COMMON SENSE“ ENERGY NEWS
AUGUST 20TH, 2021
The Biden Administration announced this week that the Department of Interior will resume issuing permits for oil and gas leasing on federal lands. While they are only resuming this process during their appeal to a U.S. District Court ruling saying they cannot block permits for oil and gas exploration, it is a step in the right direction. The Interior Department boasts of the renewable energy projects on public lands, and now they will resume allowing oil and gas permits as well.
The Bottom Line: The United States should be embracing an all-of-the-above approach to energy production. The more energy sources we have, the more affordable energy will be. This will help America be energy independent while making it easier for working class Americans to fill their tanks, cool their homes and fire up their grills as summer winds down.
It’s no secret that Joe Biden has been waging an all-out war on fossil fuels during his first seven months in office. But now, with energy prices skyrocketing, he is calling on foreign nations to increase their energy production so the United States can buy it from them.
The Bottom Line: Biden is pleading to foreign nations to lower oil costs despite America having the ability to be energy independent by embracing its own oil and natural gas. What Biden is doing is like if your house was on fire and you are offering to pay the fire company a few towns over to come to the rescue when you have your own fire truck sitting in your driveway – it’s nonsensical.
The oil and gas industry is critical to our everyday lives and the American economy, from heating our homes to manufacturing the products we use on a daily basis.

Americans are paying $3.18 on average for a gallon of gas. It was $2.18 one year ago. California leads the nation with an average of $4.40/gallon.
EPA Workshop On Methane Emissions: On Monday, August 23, and Tuesday, August 24, the EPA “will hold a virtual public workshop … to hear perspectives on innovative technologies that could be used to detect methane emissions from the oil and natural gas industry.”
Line 5 Mediation Concludes: Mediation in the dispute over the Line 5 pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac in Michigan is expected to be complete by the end of August. The parties last met with the mediator earlier this month.
