Notice to all essential businesses that remain open the public during COVID Outbreak
On April 4th, 2020, the Governor of West Virginia issued an Executive Order No.21-20 directing local health departments to implement further restrictions to save lives and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public from the spread of the COVID virus in Kanawha County. On April 5th the Kanawha Charleston Health Department implemented these additional restrictions upon the residents, businesses, and public and private entities in Kanawha County:
Summary of Business Restrictions:
The Governor’s Executive Order EO 21-20 requires essential businesses in Kanawha County that remain open to order employees, to maximum extent possible, to work from home or work remotely. The April 5th, 2020 Order issued by the Kanawha Charleston Health Department requires all businesses that remain open to the public to implement social distancing and hygiene practices in the workplace, including maintaining six feet of space for employees where possible.
As was required by the Governor’s Executive Order EO 21-20, the Kanawha Charleston Health Department implemented an occupancy plan on a per individual per square foot basis for all businesses that remain open to public, as follows:
- No more than two (2) individual members of the public may enter into the business per 1,000 square feet of public space in the business. Employees are not included in this total.
- Business shall also track of the number of people who enter and leave the store on a one-in, one-out basis once capacity is reached. The business shall take actions to establish social distancing for the public to the greatest extent possible, including but not limited to marking distances six feet apart at any area where people are likely to stand in line, creating one-way aisles or other restrictions to limit close contact with other people, and encouraging people to place orders ahead, where feasible, that will allow them to pick up and pay without entering the business.
- Business shall prominently post the maximum per person occupancy limits.
The West Virginia State Police, along with local law enforcement, are tasked with enforcement of regulations established by the Governor’s Executive Order as well as the occupancy limits established by KCHD.
All Essential Business that remain open the public shall comply with these regulations to maximum extent possible
