World Shale Energy Day, celebrated each year on March 17, recognizes the powerful role shale energy has played in modern industry, economic growth, and energy innovation. The date commemorates March 17, 1949, when the first commercial hydraulic fracturing operations were conducted—an innovation that helped launch the shale energy revolution.

For West Virginia, shale development has delivered tremendous benefits, including jobs, royalty payments to landowners, increased state revenues, and the energy resources that help power our nation.

GO-WV invites our members to help amplify this story. To make participation easy, we’ve created a World Shale Energy Day Social Media Toolkit with ready-to-share graphics and sample posts.

We encourage you to join the celebration by:

  • Sharing GO-WV posts on X (Twitter), Facebook, and LinkedIn
  • Posting the toolkit graphics on your company’s social channels
  • Helping highlight the importance of shale energy to West Virginia’s economy and communities
