Our Purpose

Formed in 2021, the Gas and Oil Association of WV, Inc., is a not-for-profit corporation representing companies engaged in the extraction and production of natural gas and oil in West Virginia, and the companies and individuals which support extraction activities. GO-WV was formed through a merger of the Independent Oil and Gas Association of West Virginia and the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association to promote and protect a strong, competitive and capable independent natural gas and oil producing industry in West Virginia. At its formation, GO-WV approved the following Mission Statement which better defined the Association’s purpose and goals:

The purpose of the Association is to promote and protect all aspects of the West Virginia oil and natural gas industry, including:

(a) the drilling, production, gathering, processing, interstate transportation, local distribution, marketing and sale of oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids (“NGLs”);
(b) the use of natural gas for electric power generation, and the use of oil, natural gas and NGLs as fuel sources and as raw materials in chemical and
manufacturing processes;
(c) encouraging and projecting a unity of purpose in the industry;
(d) promoting, fostering, and aiding:
(1) the education of all West Virginians about the industry and the benefits it brings to individuals and to the State;
(2) vocational, technical, and professional educational opportunities for those seeking to work in the industry; and,
(3) efforts to keep elected and appointed governmental representatives informed about the environmental and economic benefits of using oil natural gas and NGLs, the challenges the industry faces and what can be done to improve the industry;
(e) protecting and improving both the environment and business climate of our state regarding the oil and natural gas industry; and,
(f) generally doing such things as may help advance and grow the oil and gas industry.
